I’m a supporter of loose-leaf teas from fancy outfits, not just because they sell a fine product, but I really enjoy the old-timey experience of measuring out loose tea. People were keeping tins of loose tea long before any of us were born… and for some reason, fighting with the lids, botching the measuring, and spilling loose tea on the counter makes me feel a little more connected with the whole human race. (I’m actually really serious, and urge everyone to give it a try. It’s like a visit to a living history museum, right in your own kitchen.) But, we don’t always have the luxury or the time to prepare loose-leaf teas to accompany us to the office, on the trail, or in the car.
Sometimes a packaged tea is so much more convenient that it’s the only way to go. For those times, Stash tea has my recommendation. Reasonably priced, based in Oregon, and with a hefty selection for every tea-drinker, Stash is just all right. Sure, the loose-leaf is more environmentally friendly, usually fresher, and just a better cup of tea — but when you can’t go loose, go Stash. High on my favorites list is their Green Chai. You can drink it plain, but a little cream and sugar are welcome additions. (If you’re a chai fan, keep an eye out for their holiday chai sampler, though, admittedly, at this stage you’ll have to wait until next November.) Their black, decaf, and holiday rum chai selections are all worthy choices when you can’t brew a proper pot of loose-leaf tea.
