In a digital age, staunch historians sometime resist embracing the most new-fangled of technology. Luckily, even the most devout luddite can be persuaded to navigate the mystery of podcasting when rewards such as The History of Rome await.
Yet, even a general audience will enjoy The History of Rome – as its producer, Mike Duncan, focuses on the human drama of this popular part of Western Civilization history. Duncan, who holds a BA in Political Science and Philosophy, tells the story of Roman History with characters (not sweeping general themes) squarely on center stage. In addition to his knowledge, Duncan displays a wealth of enthusiasm and wit through well-paced delivery.
The only downside stems from a technical mishap Duncan had with the early episodes (roughly 1 – 20). Those are the only ones not available through i-Tunes, though all the episodes can be heard at: http://thehistoryofrome.typepad.com/ Whether you’re looking to learn about Roman History or simply be well-entertained, I can’t recommend this podcast strenuously enough.
